Catnip Stuffed Mouse Knitting Pattern
Barb White
This is a variation of this pattern which is not felted.
I use washable yarn and don't felt it. Use worsted weight yarn with another strand of mohair or two strands of sport weight yarn. I found the most outrageous colors work wonderfully.
The mice are 4-5 inches long with a tail long enough to reach the ears. I stuff them with old nylon hose. Only stuff with pantyhose if you are making these for children, not for cats!
I use embroidery floss to make eyes, nose and whiskers. Try floss in the eye color of children; they love it. Or just some outrageous color that contrasts.
Tips for the whiskers:
Use double floss. Insert needle into right whisker spot and bring it out at nose. Pull thread thru until you have ¾" of whisker sticking out. Make enough back stitches to make a nice nose, then go out the left whisker spot and cut to ¾". Insert needle in right whisker spot and leave ¾" whisker. Bring needle out the right eye and backstitch eye. Insert needle and go to left eye and back stitch. Insert needle and come out left whisker and cut to ¾" whiskers. Make more whiskers if you like.
See Abbreviations and the Glossary for help.
