Deep V-Neck Cardigan

A plunging v-neck highlights this knitting pattern for a woman's cardigan sweater with drop sleeves.

Finished chest measurement=40"

Gauge:
15 sts and 20 rows=4" with larger needles over pattern stitch

Materials:
8 skeins Lily Sugar 'N Cream or appropriate substitution
100% cotton
125 yards/114 meters
70 grams/2.5 ounces
Size 8 US (5 mm) straight needles
Size 8 US (5 mm) circular needles 29" or longer
Size 10 US (6 mm) straight needles

Pattern Stitch - King Charles Brocade (Multiple of 12 + 1)
Row 1 (RS): k1, *p1, k9, p1, k1; rep from *
Row 2: k1, *p1, k1, p7, k1, p1, k1; rep from *
Row 3: k1, *p1, k1, p1, k5 (p1, k1) twice; rep from *
Row 4: p1, *(p1, k1) twice, p3, k1, p1, k1, p2; rep from *
Row 5: k1, *k2, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1, k3; rep from *
Row 6: p1, *p3, (k1, p1) twice, k1, p4; rep from *
Row 7: k1, *k4, p1, k1, p1, k5; rep from *
Row 8: Rep Row 6
Row 9: Rep Row 5
Row 10: Rep Row 4

King Charles Brocade

Back
With smaller needles, CO 66 sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing 2½".
Inc 9 sts evenly over last row - 75 sts.
Change to larger needles. Work in Pattern Stitch, working first and last st of every row in St st, until piece measures 14" from beg.
Mark armhole and work in Pattern Stitch an additional 9".
BO 24 sts beg next 2 rows. Place rem sts on holder for back of neck.

Front (Make Two)
With smaller needles, CO 33 sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing 2½".
Inc 6 sts evenly over last row - 39 sts.
Change to larger needles. Work in Pattern Stitch, working first and last st of every row in St st, for 9".
Neck Shaping
Keeping to pattern, at neck edge, dec 1 st every 4th row 6 times, then every 6th row 8 times.
At same time, when piece measures 14" from beg, mark armhole (neck shaping will not be completed).
Cont in Pattern Stitch until armhole measures 9". BO.

Sleeves
With smaller needles, CO 38 sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing 2½".
Inc 25 st evenly over last row - 63 sts.
Change to larger needles. Work in Pattern Stitch, working first and last st of every row in St st, 18½" or desired length.
BO.

Neck And Buttonhole Bands
Seam shoulders.
With circular needles, pick up sts along neck edge from bottom ribbing to neckline; knit stitches from back of neck holder; pick up sts along neck edge from neckline to bottom ribbing for remainder of the band. Please see Picking up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information.
Work k1, p1 ribbing for 6 rows. On the 3rd row, make buttonholes, spacing 7 buttonholes evenly.
BO in pattern.

Finishing
Sew in sleeves from marker to marker on front and back.
Seam sides and sleeves.
Weave in ends on WS.
Sew on buttons.
