Woman's Cardigan Vest Knitting Pattern

This women's cardigan vest uses a different pattern called Mock Honeycomb. It's very textured.

Slip all sts as if to purl with the yarn in front on the right side. Be sure you slip stitches loosely.

Size:
Small/Medium
Finished chest measurement 40"

Gauge:
14 sts=4" in pattern stitch with larger needles

Materials:
Size 9 US (5.5 mm) needles
Size 10 US (6 mm) needles
Size 9 US (5.5 mm) 29" or longer circular needles
3 skeins Bartlett Yarn 2 ply or appropriate substitution
100% wool
210 yards/4 ounces
5 large buttons

Instructions

Pattern Stitch
Mock Honeycomb - multiple of 4 sts + 1

Rows 1, 3 and 5 (WS): Purl
Rows 2 and 4: k1, *sl 3 wyif, k1; rep from *
Row 6: k2, *insert right needle under all the slipped stitch strands below and knit the next st, k3; rep from *, end last rep k2
Rows 7, 9 and 11: Purl
Rows 8 and 10: k3, *sl 3 wyif, k1; rep from *, end k2
Row 12: k4, *insert right needle under all the slipped stitch strands below and knit the next st, k3; rep from *, end k1

Woman's Cardigan Vest Knitting Pattern

Back
With smaller needles, CO 66 sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing 2½".
Inc 7 sts evenly over last row - 73 sts.
Change to larger needles and work in Pattern Stitch 13" or desired length.
Shape Armhole
BO 4 sts beg next 2 rows.
Keeping to pattern, dec 1 st each end every other row 6 times.
Work even in Pattern Stitch until armhole measures 9½" or desired length.
BO 6 sts beg next 2 rows.
BO 5 sts beg next 2 rows.
Place rem sts on holder for back of neck.

Front (Make 2)
With smaller needles, CO 32 sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing 2½".
Inc 1 st evenly over last row - 33 sts.
Change to larger needles and work in Pattern Stitch 13" or desired length.
Shape Armhole And Neck
BO 4 sts at armhole.
Keeping to pattern, dec 1 st every other row 6 times at armhole. At the same time, at neck edge dec 1 st every 4th row 12 times - 11 sts Continue in Pattern Stitch until armhole measures 9" or desired length.
At armhole, BO 6 sts. Work one row. BO rem sts.

Neck/Buttonhole Bands
Seam shoulders.
With RS facing and circular needles, beg at bottom right edge pick up sts, k sts from holder, pick up along left edge.

Work in k1, p1 rib 5 rows.
On the 3rd row, make buttonholes, spacing 5 buttonholes evenly.

Armhole Bands
With RS facing and circular needles, pick up appropriate number of stitches along the armhole (see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes).
Work in k1, p1 ribbing 5 rows.
BO.

Finishing
Sew side seams. Weave in ends on WS. Sew on buttons
