While The Courtyard is not exclusively a yarn store (they also sell recycled books and gifts), they do have a large selection. Located in the Village Exchange, it boasts 2 floors, as well as a few rocking chairs to sit around and knit in. The woman working (I didn't catch her name) was EXTREMELY helpful in helping me find some 100% alpaca that was uncolored as i was about to try dyeing it with some kool-aid mix. She wasn't sure if it would work, and asked that i return if, in fact, it did not and she would give me a deal on some new yarn. There is also a large selection of needles and knitting accessories available, as well as rare and exotic yarns. I'll definitely be going back!

This shop is on John's Island near Charleston and on the way to Kiawah/Seabrook Islands. Half the shop is needlework supplies and the other is knitting. They carry Colinette, Trendsetter, KFI, Berroco -you get the picture- lots of interesting yarns. They have a great variety of lovely needlework canvases for bags, shoes, belts and lots with a Charleston/southern theme to commerate your visit. I found it hard to see their shop at first, you must look for the SMILE sign ( it shares a small complex with a Orthodondist). 2/10

Wonderful yarn shop in a Charleston Single House in downtown Charleston with
parking! Great selection of yarns including the unusual blends that result
in beautiful garments. Classes are offered for all levels of knitters. The
sales people are very knowledgeable and willing to assist with any problems
you may encounter.

What a lovely setting. This shop is in what appears to have been the garden shed of a lovely old
southern large home. A little difficult to find, so look for a large white home with a fence around it.
A notice on the door said to beware because her cat was visiting for the day. The largest part of
the shop is devoted to needlepoint but there is a small portion with nice yarn and an average pattern
collection. The owner said she has been very interested in buttons of late and has a tremendous
selection of unique buttons. Did not have a very good inventory of knitting accessories.

This delightful yarn shop, located in an old yellow, bungalow-style house, will thrill any knitter. While one room is dedicated to needlepoint items, the majority of the shop contains wonderful yarns of all sorts. Jan, who owns the shop and runs it with the help of her daughter, has a extensive selection of yarns that include beautiful scarf and novelty yarns to rich, traditional, sweater yarns. She carries many of the brands that all of us have come to love such as Debbie Bliss, Rowen, Lamb's Pride, Cotton Classics, Prism, and Skacel to name just a few. And if one looks high up on the shelves there are beautiful selections of cashmere and angora yarns, as well. There is one whole room dedicated to babies' and children's yarn along with books to inspire knitters that hold charming children's patterns. An old wardrobe holds a number of example sweaters to fill both new and old knitter's minds with ideas for their new project. Official classes are not offered but Jan does teach on a one-on-one basis as time allows during store hours. Jan's cat Winky lives at the shop and sleeps by the fire making an even more charming setting. Because Winky in an indoor-only cat, one will need to ring the doorbell in order to go into the shop. So, if your yarn stash needs to be made a little bigger, drop in for a visit. You'll go home having to find someplace else to put some more yarn! This review was written December 26, 2005.

This upscale shop has a lovely setting. This shop is in what appears to have been a home. However, the parking area only houses four vehicles.
Many beautiful, hand knit items were displayed. Tags were attached to these items with information on specific yarn used, quantity of yarn needed and information on where the pattern could be found. The shop offered many kits - prepackaged with a picture of the project, the pattern and yarn.
About half the shop is devoted to needlepoint. The shop has lots of books and buttons. The shop also stocks many unique needles with special stops. Glass-blown needles were available for $86.
The shop advertised that classes were available. A photo album was on display of fellow knitters displaying their projects.

One of the best shops in the country. I have traveled from east coast to west coast and have to check out yarn shops everywhere I go. Drives my husband nuts. They have a HUGE inventory of yarn from low to medium price to higher end. They carry everything from Lion Brand, because our closest Wal-Mart is 26 miles away to Berroco, Paton, Reynolds, Noro, Debbie Bliss, Louet, Elsebeth Lavold, just to name some. 5/07

I live in NC but travel to Campobello regularly to shop at North Woods Farms because I consider it one of the best yarn shops I've visited from Maine to Florida. I make a point to search out yarn shops when I travel and this is the best. Whether knitting, crocheting or spinning is your fiber art of choice this is the place for you. Teri, the owner, raises alpaca and spins so has plenty of information and roving for spinners. For the rest of us, she has any yarn you want or will order it. She carries lower to higher end yarns, sock yarn to bulky yarns, all the supplies/tools you would want and patterns galore. There is always a class being offered for a variety of projects. They are all so friendly and welcoming, encouraging you to sit and knit, crochet or spin awhile. I wish I lived closer, but for this shop I travel a distance to visit at least once or twice a month. 10/07
