What an incredible store! Located in a cute part of town, Blazing Needles was this traveling knitter's oasis. When I went in, I was greeted by the owner, who offered me a fresh cup of coffee, which I drank while sitting by the fire in the fireplace. I then proceeded to explore the inviting, well-lit rooms and the yarn they displayed. What struck me the most was Blazing Needles' incredible selection of ShiBui, Artyarns, Hand Maiden, and Sleeping Dragon, Koigu, and Tilli Thomas yarns. I went in hoping to find something unique and special that I just had to have, and I was not disappointed. In addition to the appealing yarns, the store samples were plentiful, up-to-date, and gorgeously displayed. They included original designs as well as patterns from popular books and designers. I went home with a bagful of patterns and yarn, and will be back every time I visit Salt Lake City. 11/08

To my surprise I have just recently found my new favorite yarn shop inside a quilt shop. At Piper's Quilts I found more wonderful yarns than at the other local shops I have been to. Also I was inspired by how many wonderful knitted displays that they had. I love Debbie Bliss and their selection was incredible as well as they had Annie Blatt which I adore. The atmosphere is cozy in a restored farm house style home. Everyone who worked at Piper's was so very helpful. I was wowed by this shop and I think it is a must visit. Located in historic Sugarhouse in Salt Lake City.

Soul Spun Yarns is one of my favorites of all the local yarn stores I have visited. The owner wasn't even there the day I visited while in Salt Lake City on business, but the store had a very cool chic-but-not-snobby vibe that few stores have.
There were tons of knitted and crocheted items, both from magazines and books and free patterns online, which I thought was really cool.
There were a lot of cool yarns there that I hadn't seen before and they were all displayed really well.
All the yarns, for the most part, were divided into color (check out the website, it shows the cool setup of the store and has a free pattern), which I thought was a cool approach that most stores don't use.
And there was a bigger crochet emphasis than I have seen at any other local yarn shop. I would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area, even if it's a bit of a drive I think it would be worth it.

Three Wishes is a wonderful shop for all your fiber needs. Kristine Bullock sells everything from spinning wheels and supplies to roving to weaving looms as well as all different kinds and colors of yarn and needles. She offers many classes so you can learn how to use all the wonderful fibers and supplies she sells in her shop. She is knowledgeable and her shop has a homey feel, with an overstuffed sofa just waiting for you to sit and knit a spell. She holds spinning days there as well, so you can come and spin a bit too. You'll also enjoy meeting her two corgis, Mozart and Teegen, the shop mascots. 11/07

The shop is small and the presentation wasn't great but the owner was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The carried a pretty small of selection of mostly higher end basics but had a large selection of patterns and books.

I visited The Wool Cabin while I was in Salt Lake City (summer of 2005). This place was cool and earthy and, as the name indicates, carried mostly wool. They also had a big selection of sock yarns and a lot of pattern books as well as other novelty type yarns. The store was very well laid out and it was very active and everyone there was very friendly.
